My New Kansas City Photography Studio

Can I tell you all something? In June of 2011, when I started Faces You Love Photography, I never, ever dreamed I’d have a store front studio. Sometimes I still can’t believe the journey this business has taken me on already, and now I’m thrilled to see where it takes me in the next 5 years! I’m thrilled to share with you today my new Kansas City photography studio.

A little over 2 years ago, I moved into my very first studio space. It was the perfect size, bright, and cozy. There was only one big draw back… stairs. Lots of them! Well, that and the fact that nobody knew I was up there… For 2 years ago that space served me well. I saw so many newborns, babies, toddlers, children, families, and even professional headshots happen in that space!

The first studio, clearly in the early days before I filled it with props!

Mid-way through March my landlord emailed to say a storefront space was opening up across the street, and asked if I’d be interested in checking it out. I looked, I loved it (even though I knew I’d need to do some serious painting), and decided to take it! Less than 2 weeks later I was moving in!

Are you ready to see what I’ve done with the place?

I’m so excited to share these with you!

Ok – first a couple of jaw-dropping before and afters…

So much blue! Let me tell you - this room was a beast to paint.

Not 100% the same angle... photographer memory fail ;)

Yes. The room really was purple. Wow. Also delightful to paint over! I suspect this work/storage space will get messed with more this fall, but for now I just needed it functional and not a mess.

Huge thanks to my friends and sister for coming over to help me paint this place! It took FOREVER! Those ceilings are so tall, and there’s no way I could have done it all myself. I’m so incredibly grateful to you ladies!

Also big thanks to my friend Missy for coming over when it was still a blank slate, and helping me visualize where things should go, how to decorate it, etc. Some of the things she suggested hadn’t even occurred to me, and they’re now my favorite aspects of the place!

A video “tour” is being worked on now, but for now enjoy this photo tour, and make plans now to come to my big Open House and 5th Birthday Celebration on June 11th! That’s right – 5 years next month! RSVP your attendance or interest via the event here on Facebook!

Have I ever mentioned that I love buying props?

Lots of space for my growing prop addiction collection!

Know what else I have? A private courtyard I can shoot in! Look at all this possibility back there! White washed wall, bricks, and even gorgeous wood!

When you come back for your ordering appointment, this is where we’ll hang out! We’ll go through your images together on that TV, see the latest product samples, and be able to figure out the best size wall art for your home. And this area does double duty too – if you’re bringing siblings to a newborn session, they can camp out in front of a movie after their part is done! There also might be some fun toys and books hidden in those white ottomans on either side of the TV…

Other perks of the space:

Bathroom! No more leaving the studio and going across the hall.

Snacks & Drinks! Of course I’m not going to get rid of those.

No more stairs! Often you can park right in front of my space, and wheel your stroller right in.

There you have it – the new home of Faces You Love Photography! I love being in the heart of Waldo, and plan to remain there for a long time. If you’re in the area (hello, Waldo Pizza practically next door!), stop by and peek in the windows! If I’m there, pop in and say “hi” – I love showing the place off to friends.
