It’s been One Year and Cake Smash Sessions city here at my Kansas City studio this winter! Really though, such a fun way to spend these cold winter months. It also doesn’t hurt that it meant the return of several of my winter 2015 newborns!
One such returning newborn sure did not disappoint when it came to the Cake Smash portion of his session, but we’ll get to that in a minute! First, the images from the first half – the more traditional One Year Session portraits.
Not only is he stinking adorable, but that bear he’s with is pretty special too! That bear was used by his father to propose to his mother. When you squeeze his paw, you hear the proposal in his dad’s voice. How special is that!? I love that they not only brought it to the session, but that it still works after all of these years!
I mean, come on! How can you not fall in love with this whole series of photos of a boy and his stuffed monkey?! Too. Much.
Another special item brought to the session was the football helmet once worn by his great-grandfather. I love the history of this and the way it connects generations!
OK, now we’ll get down to the wild cake smash! He’ll be having a Where the Wild Things Are themed first birthday party, so I incorporated a bit of that into his cake smash time. I’m thinking the “Wild Thing” might be appropriate, given the hilarity of how Mr. M completely threw himself into things (literally)! Probably didn’t hurt that he had a sizable audience too – he had 6 older kids egging him on and laughing hysterically any time he did something remotely funny (hello, clapping with a fist full of cake, rubbing cake on his belly, squishing cake with his hands, etc.)!
